The Spaniard has earned millions of dollars in prize money and also receives appearance fees for participating in some select few tournaments. But the question that arises is whether he will get that sum for participating in the upcoming Indian Wells tournament.

The Spaniard is currently sidelined due to an injury bout; Nadal made a brief comeback earlier this season but got injured again. Nevertheless, he is on the path of recovery and will potentially take part in the Indian Wells Masters. As far as the fee is concerned?

The Indian Wells Masters tournament is one of the few events that is mandatory for ATP players to play if they are fit. Since it is a mandatory tournament, Nadal won’t be receiving an appearance fee if he participates in the event. However, the former World No. 1 will have other benefits to enjoy.

The tournament is owned by Larry Ellison, the billionaire founder of Oracle. Nadal is a close friend of his and often hosts the Spaniard at his private resort. Additionally, he will also earn a lucrative sum if he digs deep in the tournament.

During his illustrious career, Nadal has earned more than $134 million in prize money. Additionally, he pockets millions of dollars in sponsorship deals, like those with Emporio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Telefonica, Banco Sabadell, and Mapfre. On top of that, Nadal also receives more than $1 million as appearance fees to play in a select few tournaments across the globe, except for the mandatory events.

However, Nadal’s participation in Indian Wells is still in doubt. His spokesperson recently broke his silence on this matter.

Nadal’s spokesperson reveals the Spaniard’s Indian Wells plans

Rafael Nada’s spokesperson, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, in a recent interview, opened up about Nadal’s plans to take part in the upcoming tournaments.

Next month, Nadal will play an exhibition event, the Netflix Slam. Subsequently, there is a possibility that he might also play at Indian Wells. On this front, his spokesperson said, “If he is fit, he wants to play. He is a tennis player and wants to play at the biggest tournaments. And he loves Indian Wells.”

The Spaniard will be eager to make a return to one of his favorite tournaments that he missed last year. It’ll be interesting to see if Nadal can have a successful run on his comeback.
