The American tennis prodigy, Ben Shelton, will lock horns with the 22nd-seeded Argentine, Francisco Cerundolo. Entering the tournament as the 16th-seeded participant, the American tennis star brushed aside his unseeded opponent, Jakub Menšík, in a three-set game, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, at the Indian Wells Open.

Francisco Cerundolo, on the other hand, is coming to the outdoor hard-court event after his semifinal finish at the Rio Open. The Argentine player, who is the 22nd seed, was awarded a walkover after his opponent, Alexander Shevchenko, picked up an injury in the second set of their first-round match.

The round-of-32 match between Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo at the BNP Paribas Open will also mark their first meeting on the ATP circuit. With no prior confrontation between Shelton and Cerundolo in any competitive match, their H2H record is currently locked at 0-0.
