Andy Murray is back! After the last few years that have been marred by injuries, the former World Number 1 has made a decent start to this season. The Brit is in Indian Wells to participate in the BNP Paribas Open. Earlier today, he won his first-round encounter against his nemesis at the Australian Open, Taro Daniel. In doing so, Murray achieved an incredible milestone.

Andy Murray notches up 700th careen victory

The 34-year-old came from a set behind to defeat Taro Daniel in an astonishing comeback. In the process, he became the fourth active ATP player after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic to achieve the milestone of 700 career victories.

However, it hasn’t been an easy road for Murray, given that he had to wait some years to reach this landmark owing to injuries.

He was on 663 career wins on the ATP tour when he had his hip resurfacing surgery in January 2019. Subsequently, he has won 37 matches with a metal hip. While the Swiss maestro leads the current pack in terms of the number of victories, with 1,251 wins in his kitty, Rafael Nadal is second with 1,043 wins followed by Novak Djokovic with 991 career victories.

Murray completes an epic turn-around against Taro Daniel

Coming to his first-round victory over the Japanese, Murray had to dig deep to overcome his opponent. Taro Daniel started the match on the front foot as he broke Murray’s serve in the fourth game of the opening set. Daniel won five consecutive games as he eventually took the first-set 6-1.

Further, in the second set, it was Murray’s turn to dominate the proceedings. He broke the Japanese’s serve in the second and the fourth game of the second set to take a 5-0 lead. Daniel showed glimpses of a comeback by breaking the Briton’s serve in the seventh game. However, he couldn’t hold his serve in the subsequent game as he lost the second set 6-2.

Further, the deciding set began with Daniel breaking Murray’s serve in the first game. However, the Brit came back strongly to level the third set 3-3. There was no looking back for Murray after this. He punched a deciding blow to break the Japanese’s serve in the 10th game to take the deciding set 6-4.

In the second round, Murray will face the 31st seed, Alexander Bublik.
