When John McEnroe appeared on the stage during the 2023 Indian Wells, it left fans in splits. The American legend, who enthralled fans with his on-court performances, opted to try out a different skill set in front of thousands of fans at the event. He, along with his daughter Emily, treated the fans to a rare musical delight from the tennis veteran. This year too, McEnroe is set to make the event more lively with his performance.

McEnroe’s band, Johnny Smyth Band, will be performing at the event. It will be a wholesome experience for the fans, with entertainment at its peak. But what could McEnroe be performing?

Indian Wells 2024 gets John McEnroe twist

The American legend will return to action, albeit not as a player. He, along with his band Johnny Smyth Band, will be performing in the tournament. Last year, it was McEnroe’s debut in the tournament as far as music performance is concerned. McEnroe was seen playing the electric guitar while his band performed some classics.

Fans can witness this extravaganza at the Village Stage. Further, the tournament will include other entertainment and live music performing daily during the tournament, including Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon, the Bryan Bros. Band, and more. McEnroe will be performing on March 9 and a huge turnaround is expected on weekends.

Meanwhile, McEnroe has often performed at various different events worldwide. Although his interest lies in music after his retirement, McEnroe’s album never hit the stores. However, he once opened up about his music interests.

When McEnroe got candid about his love for music

In an interview a couple of years ago, the American tennis legend opened up about his interests post-retirement. He said, “Well, after I stopped playing, I was working on some songs and playing with other people. And that led to; ‘Hey, we should write original songs.’

Further, he went on to add, “I had control over whether it was released, and at the end of the day-unfortunately for the world or, perhaps, fortunately for the world-I decided it wasn’t good enough to release it. For me, it’s all about the vocals, and although I like to sing and talk, the singing part just didn’t work out. I would have preferred to get a real singer.
