Djokovic crowned as a god in Serbia—Does any other athlete receive this level of adoration?

Novak Djokovic made the impossible possible for his country. When most athletes his age think of retirement, Djokovic not only showed his ability to the world but also brought Serbia another global recognition in Paris. Delighted with his achievement as Serbia organized a felicitation program for Nole, people couldn’t help but channel their true admiration for the legend again.

Djokovic made history by winning the gold at 37. He defeated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz by 7-6 (7-3) and 7-6 (7-2). Post-victory, Djokovic continued with his promise to celebrate in his village and he did that with a traditional dance and the Serbian flag around his shoulders.

Djokovic also dropped a heartwarming message on social where he said, “You put me in charge, I will never forget this. If I hadn’t won a medal, I would have continued to fight. I want this to be a pelzer (motivational moment) for you. This is my fifth Games, I’m 37 years old, I’ve never played a final until now, and I want you to believe that nothing is impossible. To be the best version of yourself every day, not only in competitions.”

After bringing Serbia its much-deserving honor in the Paris Olympics, he was felicitated in the grand “Balcony” of Belgrade along with NBA legend Nikola Jokic. His felicitation received a worldwide response and he was termed an absolute legend in the sport.

Since one Reddit user shared the Serb’s moment from Belgrade’s balcony, many people dropped their compliments about the tennis legend, showing how much they loved Djokovic’s epic Olympics win at 37.

Reddit users loved Serbia’s grand celebration for Djokovic. One Reddit user commented, “He may not be loved by everyone everywhere, but in Serbia he is a God!”  Now, this social media user isn’t incorrect. Djokovic has brought unimaginable glory to this country through his tennis skills. He has remained the world’s number 1 for 13 different years and has created a record at most ATP singles Grand Slams at 24.

Previously, the Serb won a bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Despite a medal and 24 Grand Slam titles, his hunger for gold didn’t stop. He worked hard and finally bagged a gold medal when most of the tennis players of his age decided to retire. Following what he accomplished, he truly deserves this love that Serbia has showered on him.

The praise went so diverse that people also claimed that Djokovic would win the presidency if he chose to run for it. “If he runs for president, he wins it,” wrote one Reddit user.

Serbians saw his grand welcome in the Balcony. Almost half of the country’s population gathered to celebrate Djokovic’s gold medal win. “Return of the King,” wrote one Reddit user, showcasing the unimaginable love people showered on him. Now, Djokovic not only played for his country but started the Serbia Open to encourage young tennis enthusiasts from the country to take up the sport.

Witnessing the Serb’s big smile during his felicitation at Belgrade, many also joked about how Djokovic hasn’t taken out his medal since the 4th of August. “Reports state that he has been wearing the medal since Aug 4th :D.” Such comments also express how delighted Djokovic has been to bring such an honor to his country.
