“Impossible to Put the Ball Past”: Taylor Fritz Desires to have Novak Djokovic’s Movement and Backhand

Emerging American tennis star Taylor Fritz has picked out Novak Djokovic’s backhand as the best. Taking to Twitter, Taylor Fritz rated some of the game’s modern-day stalwarts on individual qualities that he believes sets them apart.

Asked to name one player who has the ‘ultimate backhand’, the American chose Djokovic.

“Djokovic. I’m just going to say, I think Djokovic because it’s all-round solid,” Fritz said.

The backhand has often been a go-to shot for the Serb and he seldom misses it.

The American said as much, adding that the Serb has seldom not nailed his backhand and it has proved devastating for his opponents, every time.

“He’ll never miss it, he’ll hurt you with it. It’s Djokovic,” said the American.

Fritz is currently placed 29th in the ATP players’ standings. Over the years, the backhand has been a percentage shot, across surfaces, for the Serb superstar.

While he has an all-court game unlike Rafael Nadal, Djokovic’s backhand is the one shot that peers and pundits rave about.

“I’d go with Djokovic. His defense and movement abilities on the court for sure. He’s impossible to put the ball past,” the American said.

In yet another career milestone, the Serb achieved his sixth year-end Number 1 finish this year. The feat tied him with the legendary Pete Sampras, who did it in six consecutive years.

This year also saw him clinch his 17th career Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. He is now just three away from Nadal and Roger Federer, who are tied at 20 Grand Slams titles each.

However, at 33, many believe Djokovic still has his best years ahead of him.

Serb bidding to end lean run at ATP Finals 2020

The Serb is currently bidding for the sixth ATP Finals title. A title-run will tie him with Federer for the most number of tournament wins in London.

However, Djokovic hasn’t lifted the ATP Finals trophy in four years and is under pressure to break his lean spell at the O2 Arena this time.

It has been a mixed-bag Finals for him, so far. He started off with a resounding win over Diego Schwartzman but slipped to a straight-set loss to Daniil Medvedev in his second match.

He will run into German Alexander Zverev in his final round-robin encounter on Friday afternoon.
