In the day and age of social media, fans don’t hesitate to defend their favorites whenever needed. Tennis stars get the same treatment as any other athlete, but likely no one fights harder than fans of Novak Djokovic. They have not let any tennis personality breathe easy after they comment on their favorite, and Andy Roddick is one such star.

Andy Roddick began his ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ podcast not long ago. He has developed a “Fear a couple of things on this podcast,” namely talking about Djokovic in any capacity, positive or negative. The retired tennis star invited the captain of the US team of the Billie Jean King Cup, Lindsey Davenport, to talk about the rising star Darwin Blanch, the BJK Cup itself, and more.

Before they got into the crux of the discussion, Roddick aimed to clear out any misunderstanding with Davenport, “I know anytime I say anything nice or bad about Novak, I’m gonna get slaughtered. One way or the other, that’s a given.”

Roddick experienced backlash from his fandom when he made comments about Djokovic’s fitness in his match against Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinal. The American legend cleared his thoughts on his podcast in a previous episode after he faced backlash. He explained that his breath looked short even before his match against Ruud.

He further said in the episode from a few weeks ago, “This is normal. I’m so scared of Nole’s Twitter people. I say something like he was breathing heavily and even though he was breathing heavily, they are like f*** you! I just eat s*** from them all the time.”

Roddick also faced doubt from Djokovic fans when he was part of a historic moment created by Djokovic in 2023.

Andy Roddick clears misunderstanding after Novak Djokovic fans doubt his intentions

Novak Djokovic created history in tennis when he won his 24th grand slam in the 2023 US Open. The world witnessed the moment, and Roddick was the one who presented him with the trophy. A glorious moment for Djokovic turned sour for his fans as they felt Roddick’s reaction was not in tune with the energy of the event. One fan wrote, “Why did Andy Roddick agree on presenting the trophy 🏆 #Djokovic He clearly looked unhappy, or is that his happy face.

As Roddick kept getting questioned by Djokovic’s fans, he stepped up to clear the air on the matter. “I say that it was an honor to present the trophy. I know that I wouldn’t have been a lot of his fans’ first choice, but I’m the one that said yes and showed up. Am continually amazed by his accomplishments. In that scenario, my job is to sit back and not be noticed until my duty of handing the trophy over.”

The 2003 US Open champion has stated his love for the Djoker many times over the years, even though he might also criticize him from time to time.
