Dominic Thiem, turned pro in the year 2011 after holding the ranking as high as World no.2 in the junior category. The former ATP World no.3, is one of the most cherished players of men’s tennis. As he has won 17 career titles out of which one is a Grand Slam. Though in the last two years, due to injuries, he hasn’t given his best.

The Austrian first incurred an injury to his wrist in 2021, which kept him out of the Wimbledon championship. Although he initially assured his fans that surgery wasn’t required, he went under the knife in 2022.

Thereafter, Thiem made a comeback in the Challenger Marbella but failed to get through the first round. Following that, he participated in Serbian, Estoril, Madrid, and the Italian Open and faced similar outcomes. Currently, he is gearing up for the French Open and has received backing from Roger Federer.

After giving a subpar performance last week at Geneva Open, Thiem is ready to test his luck in the red dirt of Roland Garros. Since the 28-year-old is holding hope, how can his fans lose faith in him? Therefore, one of his fans, who happens to be a part of the big three of the current generation, cheered for him before his first match. The 20 times Grand Slam champion said, I hope it’s going well for Dominic in Paris. I’m a big fan of Dominic!”

Speaking of the former World no.3’s records in the French Open, he has been a hit since the very start. In fact, Thiem was the runner-up in the event in the years 2018 and 2019. However, Rafael Nadal, the 21 times Grand Slam champion, outclassed him in both the finals.

Thiem Against Federer

Dominic Thiem first locked horns with the legend in the year 2016 at Brisbane where the Federer’s experience outdid his game. Thereafter, he settled the score on the clay courts of the Italian Open 2016 and secured a lead at Stuttgart Open in the same year.

In 2018, Federer outclassed the Austrian at the ATP Finals to bring the score to a tie. However, in the following clashes, the Swiss failed to keep up. As of 2019, Thiem outfoxed him in the finals of Indian Wells, thrashed him on the clay of Madrid, and took a straight-set win in the first round-robin match at the ATP Finals.
