Most of us, more often than not, fail to realize the importance of sleep in our lives. The drudgery of daily life forces us to cut down on the number of hours we are supposed to sleep. But what about athletes? The ones we cherish so much seeing in full flow? A few years ago, tennis legend Roger Federer shed some light on his sleep schedule, claiming that he requires around 11 to 12 hours of sleep each day. Perhaps this is what helped him perform at the highest level for such a long time. It seems like the younger generation is also following in his footsteps.
In a recent interview, Danish ATP ace Holger Rune opened up on his sleep routine and how it relaxes his body and helps him recover from stress. This seemed quite similar to that of his idol, the great Roger Federer.

According to experts, professional athletes indeed need that extra bit of sleep in order to recover from the wear and tear their bodies go through. This is crucial if they are to continue playing at the highest level. Twenty-year-old tennis sensation Holger Rune weighed in on the importance of sleep in his post-match press interview at the ongoing French Open.
On being asked about his nap timings, especially during tournaments, he said, “Yeah, I sleep a lot. I love to sleep. I probably sleep around, I don’t know, 9 to 13 hours if I can. It’s a lot. I really like it. I think it’s the best recovery that you can have. You know, I actually think the muscle relax, everything relaxes when you sleep, so I try to, you know, every time I can sleep.”
As revealed by Rune, his sleep schedule is almost identical to that of Roger Federer, the man he once called his sporting idol. Of course, following in the footsteps of someone like the Swiss Maestro will surely earn a lot of dividends for the young Dane.
