Juan Martin del Potro, a prominent Argentinian tennis player, recently spoke about his experiences in his tennis career. Known for his charismatic playing style and widespread popularity, Del Potro experienced both the sweet taste of success and the bitter nightmare of injuries throughout his journey in professional tennis. In the interview, Del Potro talked about the duality of his career. The duality is, as the saying goes: the honey of success and the nightmare of injuries. Interestingly, the Argentine tennis ace compared his time as a 20-year-old on the ATP Tour to that of the Spanish tennis sensation, Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, who was one of the favorites for the French Open title, had to walk out in the semifinal of the clay court major due to a leg injury. Although the Spaniard showed that he could challenge the mercurial Novak Djokovic, much like Del Potro did during his bouts with the ‘Big Three’, he was forced to limp out of the major. This incident certainly shows an eerie similarity to that of Del Potro’s promising career, which was derailed by constant injuries. But the big Argentine was much more positive while reminiscing about his twenties.

In a recent interview , reported by Pagina12, an Argentinian newspaper, Del Potro looked back on his career during his early twenties and compared it to Carlos Alcaraz and the problems he faced during his French Open semi-final against Novak Djokovic.
He said, “I live with two sensations. I have anger, I feel annoyed and I wonder why. And then it happens the other way around and I think: ‘why not me?’. I am ordinary: there are many athletes who suffer. (Carlos) Alcaraz got cramped after playing two sets with Djokovic and he is 20 years old; At the age of 20, I won the US Open final against Federer.”
Del Potro’s up-and-down career has made him one of the most important tennis players from Argentina in the last forty years. Even though he has achieved great success, he has also faced many injuries, leading to a mixed experience during his time in the sport.

Del Potro was known for his powerful plays and quick shots, and he stood out from the other players. But it was difficult for him to stay on top of his game, especially in the latter stages of tournaments.
“Pain affects daily life. I had to take life weapons, not sports, and perhaps they are the least trained I have. This challenge is different from the previous ones. Today I do not have a super happy life, because I see Roland Garros and I want to play, but I have to listen to my physique and accept that the body makes me look for another path in life,” Del Potro stated.
