Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini is one of the best players going around. The 26-year-old is currently ranked eighth in the world. Berrettini enjoyed a great run on the ATP tour last year, where he won two titles along with being a runner-up in Madrid and Wimbledon. He next played at Rio de Janeiro, reaching the quarterfinals. Playing next in Acapulco and Indian Wells, he suffered a first-round and a fourth-round exit respectively. However, his brilliant run of form was halted because of an unfortunate injury to his right hand. The world no.8 withdrew from Miami Open and went through surgery.

However, there’s good news for his fans. The Italian tennis star shared a video of his practice and also gave an update about his potential return to tour.

Berrettini Is Back on the Practice Court

Matteo Berrettini is back on the practice court after undergoing surgery on his right hand in March, but his comeback schedule will not include competing at the French Open at the end of this month.

“My hand is feeling great and I am working hard to build up my match fitness. My team and I have made the decision that going straight back into 5 set matches on clay @rolandgarros would not be sensible, therefore I will delay my comeback to compete in the full grass season,” Berrettini wrote.

Although he mentioned that he is feeling great and his hand is perfectly fine now, it won’t be sensible to return directly to a five-set tournament and as a result, he will delay his comeback to compete on grass, his best surface.
