Nick Kyrgios aimed to play at Wimbledon but decided to pull out a few hours ago due to a torn ligament in his wrist. After a months-long withdrawal from tennis due to injury, Kyrgios was hitting hard at practice sessions at All England Club. He hurt his foot during the peak of his form in the Japanese Open. The knee surgery resulted in him missing the major tournaments this year.
The Australian tennis star participated in Stuttgart but lost the first match. He decided against participating in the Halle Open and Mallorca Open in Spain. But with his recovery, he was standing tall on the English grass with a burden of expectations on his shoulders. But the star recently opened up on the negative emotions he had associated with the comeback just before he decided to pull out.

Nick Kyrgios on how he felt about making the comeback
In the pre-tournament press conference, Nick Kyrgios opened up on a host of issues. He talked about his expectations and laid bare his feelings about his fitness. While talking about how he felt about making the comeback, the star revealed, ?I don?t miss the sport at all. I was?almost dreading coming back a little bit. But it?s my job.?
The months-long absence is enough to tell about the gravity of his injury. However, his Stuttgart loss indicated all is not well as yet. The star, too, admitted, ?I still think there?s some question marks, for sure.?

While the star accepted his limitations, he tried to curtail the tall expectations about him just before he pulled out of the tournament. He said, ?I?m not going to look forward and put unfair expectations on myself.”
The star talked about how good he is feeling physically. Especially after the hard work of months to get back on the grass. He said, ?I?m not going to discredit the work I?ve put in for the last six months just trying to maintain my fitness, get back on court.? Besides his dread of coming back, the star talked about the positives as well.

Kyrgios on his learnings during the injury
While the experience of staying out of the tennis action has been painful to him, he found something positive in it. Nick Kyrgios revealed that the hectic tennis schedule doesn?t leave anytime for reflection. He said that by the time he was out of action, he got ample time to think about everything thing he had done in the previous year.
And a part of the wisdom Kyrgios obtained by quiet reflection was that he couldn?t play the way he was doing in the previous year. While the star was careful in reducing expectations, he quickly added that he was ?extremely confident? about himself, as reported by Yahoo Sports. And this contrast probably is what defines Kyrgios. Being confident and yet lowering expectations, being enthusiastic about tennis and yet dreading the comeback.
