Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have had a memorable and joyous 2021. Not only for personal reasons, but also professionally the couple have done well. Furthermore,  in a recent interview with ATP, the couple described the first day they met.

Monfils and Svitolina married each other in July this year. After two years of dating and a month of separation this year, they announced the big news. They are two of the most celebrated couples in the world and a major heartthrob in the circuit.

Like all romantic stories begin in a romantic setup, Gael and Elina were not far away from that. The couple first met in Paris when Gael called her to hang out with his friends. Since then, it has been tough to keep them away from each other. The couple felt a connection immediately and have been quite compatible for the past two years.

I do, it was in Paris actually. Yeah I think we just knew a little bit together. You went to Paris, I was in Paris at that time, both for a different reason actually so that was kind of funny. And then I texted you to say that I think I am going out with some friends, if you want to have a drink with us. And then you definitely say yes. Of course!,” said an elated Monfils.

An amused Elina said that at first, she wasn’t up to meet Monfils. Of course, she had her reasons. “No no, no, no. At first I was, I didn’t want to do it.” said Elina.

Elina Svitolina won her maiden Olympic medal this year after finishing third in Tokyo. She defeated Elena Rybakina in the bronze medal match to clinch her maiden medal. Besides the Olympic glory, she has been having a good tour this year and reached a couple of other semifinals.

As for Gael, he completed 500 wins as a professional tennis player in his career. He has joined a list of elite players in his journey and became the 11th player to do so in the men’s category. The couple will be hoping for a strong finish at the US Open next week in order to finish their year on a high note.
