The friendly match on the Wimbledon court began with a doubles match featuring The Duchess, Federer, and two other players. The event as the Princess of Wales and the Swiss Maestro took part in various training exercises, including signaling, ball changes, rolling balls up to the net, and perfecting the correct techniques for bouncing balls to players. It not only reminded Federer of the time he was a Ballboy in Basel, but also reminded him to sharpen his skills.

As a video of the collaboration between Federer and the Princess of Wales was shared on Instagram by the official account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Federer’s humility and charm came to the fore. After witnessing his ball-tossing skills on the screen, the Swiss Maestro commented, “I need to work on my tossing form.”

Federer?s acknowledgment of the importance of the BBGs role at Wimbledon is a testament to his respect for the sport and the individuals who contribute to its success. Federer’s respect for the BBGs even stems back to the years when even he was a Ballboy before changing the entire legacy of the sport.

A social media exchange turns into a charitable endeavor

The event was born from a casual exchange on social media. The Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted a picture of the Wimbledon court, playfully captioning it “Anyone for tennis?” Known for his charm and charisma, Federer couldn’t resist the invitation, quickly replying: “Count me in ?.” Wimbledon, captivated by the interaction, embraced the opportunity to host the event, which turned out to be a significant charity endeavor.

Originally scheduled for September 2022, the charity event aims to raise funds for Action for Children and the LTA Tennis Foundation. However, it had to be postponed due to the mourning period following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
