American tennis star Reilly Opelka has been away from the tour for quite some time now. The 25-year-old last played in Citi Open, where he lost against Nick Kyrgios in the second round. Further, he missed out on the remaining American hard court swing and the US Open. As of now, the 25-year-old has given no updates on his comeback.
Even though he is away from the Tour currently, the American keeps a close eye on all tennis events and also gives his views on social media. One such opinion on Twitter recently brought him a lot of hate online. Here’s what happened.

Reilly Opelka trolled for his views on voting and politics
The talk of the town in the entire US is the mid-term elections. Different people have different agendas and have their own reasons to support their favorite party. A few from the tennis community have also come forward and urged their fans and followers on social media to vote. Opelka found it absurd for people to ask others to vote. Here’s what he wrote.
Imagine telling people to go vote😂

“Imagine telling people to go vote,” he tweeted.
Exactly! Politics and ideology dont exist in tennis.. or at least they didnt when I fell in love with the game

When a fan questioned his tweet, Opelka explained the reason why he believes it is illogical to do so. “Exactly! Politics and ideology don’t exist in tennis.. or at least they didn’t when I fell in love with the game,” he replied to the intrigued fan.
Opelka’s views were not welcomed by several others on Twitter and the 25-year-old received a lot of flack for his opinion. Here’s how a few of the fans reacted on Twitter.
A fan came up with pictures of legendary tennis players who have actively worked for political awareness and raised their voices for various social issues.

In recent days, Opelka has found himself in troubled waters because of such statements. While he has all the right to express his opinion, a platform like Twitter bridges the gap between a celebrity and fans. Even a minor disagreement can bring you a great deal of online hate.
