Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal is off to a winning start in the US Open 2022. Coming after an injury break, the 36-year-old got to play only one match before the last Grand Slam of the year. While it was amazing to see the way he fought through a tough match, a few questioned the Spaniard for not obeying the serve clock rule.
The second seed gave his reason for the same in his post-match press conference.

Are the rules different for Rafael Nadal?
A journalist pointed out the question John McEnroe has kept raising repeatedly about Rafael Nadal not following the 25-second serve clock rule. Replying to the question, if the rules are different for him, Nadal said, “I think it’s a joke. I went through a lot of warnings under my tennis career. Never for breaking a racquet, never for doing a mess on court. But, yes, for the time clock.”
Further, the 36-year-old explained the reason for his delayed service. “I have a problem that I am sweating a lot. When you are playing during these very humid conditions.” Further, the Spaniard answered about the umpires, ignoring it in his case. “I don’t think I have a different treatment from the umpires at all,” he said.
To this, the Reporter asked if he was asking for a different rule for himself because he sweats a lot. Replying to this Nadal said, “I never said that. I am following the rules. If I am having more than 25 seconds, I receive a warning every single time. If not, check the clock.”
Later, the world number three also said he wonders why John McEnroe said so and he will have a word with him about this.

Starting his campaign, the second seed had a tough first round match. Playing for the first time in the US Open after his 2019 title run, the 36-year-old had a slow start against his Australian opponent Rinky Hijikata. The Aussie showed great determination and took the first set 6-4.
However, Nadal gradually gained his rhythm and took the next three sets. Further, the Spaniard will have a tough competition in the second round against former world number 9 Fabio Fognini.
