Holger Rune once again found himself on the receiving end of the drama. Ever since his breakout season in 2022, he has always been mixed up in controversial on-court moments. Despite climbing up the ranks quickly and already establishing himself as one of the biggest names on the ATP tour, Rune has often been heavily criticized for his volatile behavior. This was again evident in his recent match.
After an enormous clay season, the 20-year-old started his grass season with three consecutive straight-set wins at the Queen’s Club. The first two matches may have been quiet, but things started to heat up in his quarter-final against Lorenzo Musetti. Rune was not quite happy with the Italian’s attitude and he took a dig at him after the match.

During the match, in one of the rallies, Musetti had the entire court to himself to hit an overhead shot. However, the Italian smashed it right back at Rune and apologized immediately for the same. But the Dane was not pleased at all. He did not show his anger on the court, but in the post-match conference; he revealed what he felt like.
Rune said, “I mean it’s not the best thing to do for sure. But again it is legal he can do what he wants. This just give me, you know, fire in the belly to beat him even more. So I’m super happy to manage to beat him in two sets. It feels good. I am in the semi-final, he’s not. So I’m happy.”

It is truly remarkable how the world number 6 dealt with this situation. He usually allows these incidents to get to his head, but for a change, he showed composure here. The new mentality and recent grass court success are big positives for Holger Rune ahead of Wimbledon. However, that might not be enough as the Serbian juggernaut is going for a calendar slam, having won both the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
