Concerns started to mount over Hubert Hurkacz right after his opening round exit at the Paris Masters. The ATP star kept himself out of competition throughout the remaining season and therefore lost enough ranking points. This not only took him down to the 16th position but also added doubts around him as he continued to move ahead with an incomplete team. As anticipation for the upcoming season is building up, the Polish pro managed to set things right with not just one but two effective additions.
Poland’s tennis star Hubert Hurkacz has revealed a major update about his coaching team for the upcoming season. The World No. 16 announced that he will work with legendary coach Ivan Lendl and experienced mentor Nicolas Massu in 2025. Hurkacz shared a photo with the two coaches on social media and captioned it, “Bring it on, 2025! #team.” The trio will begin their collaboration during the pre-season in Florida and will look to prepare for the upcoming challenges in 2025.
Ivan Lendl is widely regarded as one of the greatest players and coaches in tennis history. An eight-time Grand Slam champion, Lendl guided Andy Murray to three Major titles during his coaching tenure. On the other hand, Nicolas Massu brings his own impressive strengths to the team. The former Olympic doubles gold medalist coached Dominic Thiem to his 2020 US Open triumph. Hurkacz will now aim to level up his game with better mentorship than ever with these two coaches by his side.

The 27-year-old had a roller coaster season in 2024. He reached a career-high ranking of No. 6 in August but faced challenges after sustaining an injury at Wimbledon. The setback required meniscus surgery and led to his split with longtime coach Craig Boynton. Hurkacz secured all eight of his ATP Tour titles under Boynton’s guidance. This includes his 2021 Wimbledon semifinal run. This year, he finished with a solid 40-19 win-loss record and could manage to secure his only title on clay in Estoril.

Speaking about his new team, Hurkacz expressed his excitement. “Having Nicolas Massu and Ivan Lendl as part of my team is an honor. Their knowledge and dedication inspire me to work harder than ever, and I’m ready to put in the hard work,” he said. “I’m excited and optimistic for season 2025 and beyond. This has been a year of ups and downs; I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot, and I can finally say I am fully healthy and ready for the challenges ahead.” Hurkacz is now set to kick off his 2025 season representing Poland at the United Cup, as he moves ahead with sheer optimism and an enhanced team behind him.
When Andy Murray highlighted the impact of Hubert Hukacz’s new coach Ivan Lendl
Ivan Lendl’s success as a coach could be marked as commendable, especially in his work with Andy Murray. The pair formed one of the most iconic player-coach partnerships in tennis. They transformed Murray into a tennis legend and therefore guided him on his journey to three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, and the year-end World No. 1 ranking in 2016. Lendl’s influence played a crucial role in raising Murray’s game and instilling the confidence needed to beat the sport’s biggest names on the grandest stages.

Lendl coached Murray during three separate stints: 2011 to 2014, 2016 to 2017, and 2022 to 2023. During these periods, Murray achieved the majority of his career milestones. Before working with Lendl, Murray had reached multiple Grand Slam finals but failed to secure a title, losing three to Roger Federer and one to Novak Djokovic. Under Lendl’s guidance, Murray not only improved his consistency but also developed the mental toughness required to win at the highest level. In 2013, after winning his first Wimbledon title, Murray credited Lendl for helping him embrace losses and learn from them.
“He’s made me learn more from the losses that I’ve had than maybe I did in the past,” Murray said after his Wimbledon win. “He’s always been very honest with me. If I work hard, he’s happy. If I don’t, he’s disappointed, and he’ll tell me.” Lendl’s expertise and ability to push Murray outside his comfort zone were crucial in their success. Murray appreciated how Lendl’s honesty and high expectations motivated him to work harder. As he is now with another ATP star, it still remains to be seen if he can bring wonders to his game.
