Is Sophia Thomalla's acting career overshadowing Alexander Zverev's tennis achievements?

What could be Alexander Zverev’s favorite pastime hobby? Let’s take a guess: perhaps watching movies! Or, to be precise, watching movies that star his girlfriend. The German tennis sensation has long been associated with his glamorous girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla. The couple often captures headlines, whether it’s for Zverev’s on-court brilliance or Sophia’s dazzling presence in films and TV shows. But, how many films or movies has Sophia been a part of?

Thomalla’s association with the German film industry is not new. In fact, it would not be inappropriate to say that she has been linked to films since her childhood. Thanks to her parents Simone Thomalla and André Vetters, the prominent faces of the country’s movie industry. The now-34-year-old has given her best to the film industry ever since 2006. She has acted in some of the most prominent films and TV shows to make a place for herself like her parents.

From 2007 to 2009, Thomalla attended the Constantin School for Acting in Bochum. In 2006, she played her first television role as the daughter of Barbara Rudnik and Henry Hübchen with TV director Sigi Rothemund in the ARD crime series Commissario Laurenti. Since then, Thomalla has been a part of over 23 German movies and TV shows.

In 2009 and 2010, she appeared in the Sat.1 daily soap Eine wie Keine with Chris Putze. She was also featured in the German edition of Playboy and was ranked the third sexiest Woman by the FHM (For Him Magazine.) The best phase of her career could be rightly dated back to 2010 and 2011 when she appeared in 7 different movies and shows combined. This included Hanni & Nanni, Countdown – Die Jagd Beginnt and 90 Minuten – Das Berlin Projekt. One of her latest movies, Christmas Crossfire, in which she played the role of Katja came in 2020 and gave her enough limelight yet again.

Thomalla also made an appearance in the Netflix documentary Break Point. The series, which documented Zverev’s recovery journey following his horrific ankle injury in 2022, also gave fans a peek into the athlete’s relationship with Thomalla. Besides movies, Thomalla also has a major role to play in Zverev’s life.

Speaking to the German tennis magazine in December 2021, Zverev revealed the support he receives from his girlfriend. “I think for tennis players it is always very important who you have next to you. Sophia is someone who gives me peace and security.” Continuing further, he revealed the confidence that he gets when she watches him play. “I play extremely well with her behind me and I hope that will continue to be the case.

Amid the ongoing grass-court Grand Slam Wimbledon, Thomalla has also ensured to extend her support to her German boyfriend by marking her presence in London. It will be interesting to see if the German player benefits greatly from the ‘lady luck’ that he has been receiving.
