How can Andy Murray upset Alexander Zverev?

Zverev has played some really commendable tennis in the 2021 tennis season so far. Thus, even though it won’t be easy for Murray to beat him, it is not an impossible task for the three-time Grand Slam champion.

In order to defeat the World No.4 player, Murray will have to neutralize his high serve. If he manages to break him early in the match and take a lead, he can put Zverev under a lot of pressure. For this, the Briton needs to work on his return as the margin of error is really low for him.

Second, Murray must not give the German room to execute his stunning forehand. In this, targeting his body will be a better option, so even if the German tries to hit a forehand, it won’t be that effective. Intriguingly, Novak Djokovic came up with a similar game plan in the semis of the US Open 2021 and it worked really well.

Murray must avoid long rallies as it will not just make him tired but will also help Zverev in taking momentum since he really plays well in those rallies. The Briton just needs to stick to the baseline play and continue to strike the ball since Zverev often makes mistakes and gives away the point when he tries to do something extraordinary.
