A lot of unanticipated things have been going on when it comes to Murray these days. Just yesterday, it was announced that Andy Murray will coach his long-time former rival Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open in 2025. While Murray was gearing to train one of the ‘Big 4’ and do wonders on court, the latest happening surrounding his ‘loyal and protective’ companion is a heartbreaking loss for the Brit legend.
In his latest Instagram post, Murray shared the irreplaceable loss of his dog Rusty with the world. Sharing a snippet of his family pet resting on a book, as he looks at the camera, he said, “You were the most loyal and protective companion our family could have wished for. You were so patient and gentle with the kids, and we all learned so much from you.”
Murray further shared his feelings as he reminisced about the presence of his pet around the house. He said, “The house feels empty without you in it. The noise you made when you wanted a plate to lick or a biscuit to chew on or when you wanted anything for that matter was infuriating at times! 🥲but today we would do anything to hear it again 💔 love you, ruzz rest easy poppet x”. Andy Murray’s 2nd snippet also showcases an emotion, reading, “How lucky i am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Murray’s heartwarming bond with Rusty, which was showcased on a comedy show with Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, endeared him to many. The duo was amused by Murray’s unique “dog voice” used to communicate with Rusty during their walks. Tragically, this is the second significant loss for the Murray family in recent years.
In 2022, they mourned the passing of their beloved Border Terrier, Maggie May. Murray and wife Kim had Rusty since 2011 and had only recently warned pet owners to “give your pets a big cuddle tonight because it stings when you can’t anymore” after the loss of Maggie.
In a 2021 interview with PetsPyjamas, Andy Murray expressed his deep affection for his dogs, crediting them for helping him unwind and providing unwavering support, regardless of his on-court performance.“Sometimes I find it hard to unwind after a match or if I’ve had a particularly tough training day, but I love taking them for walks or throwing a ball for them in the garden, or even just sitting with them on the sofa – I find that helps me relax,” he said.
