"Is Pedro Cachin just a funny name, or could he be Djokovic's unexpected challenge at Wimbledon?"

After much waiting, Novak Djokovic is finally at Wimbledon! Not letting his knee injury get the best of him, the former World No. 1 has come to London with new vigor! As he steps forward in his game, his loyal and supportive fans have his back, like always! When his first-round opponent was announced, they jumped in to share their thoughts on how he could easily win the draw round.

On July 1st, the tennis world will witness a first-round clash between Novak Djokovic and Vit Kopriva. On one hand, there is Djokovic, a seven-time winner of the championships, while his opponent, Kopriva, is coming after winning the qualifying round. The difference in their tennis record has grabbed the attention of fans worldwide. While some have questioned the unique name of Djokovic’s opponent, others have pointed out the ease with which the 37-year-old player might win the match.

Irrespective of that, Djokovic is not going to leave any stone unturned! Initially raising doubts about his Wimbledon participation due to his torn meniscus and knee surgery, Djokovic has now waived all doubts to give his best on the grass courts this season. After going through rigorous training and sharing those glimpses on Instagram, it seems that along with him, fans have also regained their faith in their favorite player.

After all, it is the same ground where Djokovic has shown his prowess and has even overthrown tennis legends like Roger Federer! Therefore, fans are optimistic about Djokovic’s first-round victory against Kopriva.

Fans react hilariously to Novak Djokovic playing against Kopriva at Wimbledon

One fan took to his X and shared the meaning of Vit Kopriva’s name. While the fan did not add anything about the name, a picture of a vegetation called “Bilijka” revealed the meaning of his surname, “Kopriva.” Hilariously pointing it out, one fan wrote, “Djokovic is playing a plant in R1 😭😭 He’s gonna eat him FFS.” His name might be unique but on the court, he has already made his mark by reaching the top 111 ATP ranking last year! However, fans didn’t get over his name easily.

One fan wrote, “Kopriva in serbian language means “nettle”!” According to an Oxford definition, nettle is a herbaceous vegetation that is known for its stinging hairs. Referring to this, another fan wrote in the comments, “Hope he doesn’t sting.”

The 27-year-old player, who has not earned a title this season, has already surpassed three of his opponents on the grass-courts. On the other hand, Djokovic, who has played in only 6 tournaments this season, has been struggling with his form and still remains titleless. Therefore, Djokovic, who is going to meet Moro Canas, a Spanish tennis pro, if he succeeds in the first round, is going to give his best to win his 25th Grand Slam this season.

Another fan went ahead and pointed out how Kopriva shares his name with a medicine, “Kopriva e Fearnlex sono medicinali,” which translates to “Kopriva and Fearnlex are medicines.” However, Novak Djokovic has his goals straight for this season. Showcasing his determination and resilience, after stepping in London, he said, “I’m going to take it day by day. If I know that I can play close to my maximum, or at maximum, then I’ll play. If not, then I’ll give somebody else a chance to play.”

Another fan objected and wrote, “Who is Kopriva, Moro. Easiest draw possible.” It is almost like Deja vu, but with a twist. It happened a few weeks ago at the Roland Garros, when Rafael Nadal, unseeded, had to play what fans called the “toughest,” draw possible. This is because on the opposite side of the fourteen-time French Open champion’s net stood Alexander Zverev, fresh off an Italian Open victory. Fans at that time lashed out at this. However, now the scene of the second-seeded player is quite the opposite.

However, as Novak Djokovic goes along with his goal this season, one thing is clear: Fans indeed want to see Djokovic and another Grand Slam to his name at Wimbledon!
