Hollywood Star Brooke Shields Chalks up Credit to Ex-husband Andre Agassi Over Her Career Revival – ‘Do You Really Want to Be..?’

Andre Agassi was one of the tennis players to watch out for in his prime. The American star stayed at rank 1 for 101 weeks in his career. Off the court, Agassi was the center of attention as well. Particularly after he married one of the most popular Hollywood stars at the time. He married Brooke Shields when he was 27. However, the marriage didn’t last, and Shields even said that Agassi had become incompatible throughout the two years of their marriage. But prior to the difficult period, Shields said that Agassi had encouraged her to work harder to find a good place in her career. 

Andre Agassi told Brooke Shields to work harder on her career 

In her documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, the actress opened up about her life, including her marriage to the tennis legend. Shields recounted how she met Agassi and how the two fell in love. Shields was shooting for the movie Running Wild when a friend of hers told her about Agassi. From then, she went on to the radio tower near the location and faxed him. Agassi sent her a fax in return. 

Since then, the two started sending each other long letters via fax. The two talked about a lot of things going on in their lives, including their fears and being public figures. They also talked about their relationship with their parents. By the time she returned to California, the two were already infatuated with each other. 

Shields also said that Agassi was the one who encouraged her to start acting again. He asked her if she genuinely wanted her to be an actress, and if she did, she should get in touch with an agent and start from ground zero.

“He asked me, “Do you really want to be an actress? If you do, why aren’t you doing it? You’re waiting for something that’s not happening. Get an agent, start at ground zero and start up again.”“

Why Shields and Agassi had a fallout?

Shields and Agassi eventually divorced in 1999 after two years of marriage. Even though Agassi had threatened to make the divorce difficult for Shields, she said she harbored no ill will against the eight-time Grand Slam champion. She went on to add that she felt the reason behind their fall-out was Agassi’s well known interest in another fellow tennis legend, Steffi Graf.
