In the world of professional tennis, partnerships between players and coaches come and go, but the pursuit of greatness remains constant. Holger Rune, the 20-year-old Danish tennis sensation, embodies this spirit of resilience and determination as he continues to chase his dreams on the court. Recently, Rune made headlines by teaming up with tennis legend Boris Becker. With fresh insights and guidance from Becker, the young Dane has set his sights on bigger goals that include securing the Paris Masters and earning crucial ranking points for the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin.

However, the road to success in the tennis world is full of hurdles. Holger Rune faced a disappointing defeat at the Paris Masters with Novak Djokovic as a fierce opponent. In a surprising turn of events, Holger Rune, the promising Danish tennis talent, experienced a new change in his coaching team. Lars Christensen, a coach who has been on his side since he was six, has chosen to part ways with Rune, marking the end of their coaching relationship. This decision was confirmed by Holger Rune’s mother and manager, Aneke Rune, in a recent interview with Ekstra Bladet.

Aneke Rune explained that Lars Christensen made this decision of his own accord. She mentioned, “It is his own choice to want to train with Clara (Tauson, ed.) after Shanghai, as he does not want to be part of a bigger team again and at the same time was unsure whether he alone managed to carry out the task of getting Holger to become number 1 in the world and would also like to be more in Denmark.”

Holger Rune, showing maturity, mentioned respect for Lars Christensen’s choice to move on. Aneke Rune, on behalf of her 20-year-old son, mentioned, “He’s fine with that. And with the experience we had from working with Lars and Patrick (Mouratoglou, Holger Rune’s former coach, ed.), it makes good sense that he works best alone.” However, Aneke Rune soon steered the conversation towards Rune’s future preparations. “But you cannot become number 1 in the world without a solid team, and that is the goal for Holger,” she added while stating Holger Rune’s agreement on the situation.
