The world of tennis and beyond is still buzzing over the incredible feat achieved by Novak Djokovic a few weeks back. The Serbian legend created history by becoming the first man to win a record-breaking 23 grand slam singles titles at the French Open which concluded on June 11. Exemplifying the nonchalant flamboyance of a great champion that he is, Djokovic took off for an exotic vacation with his wife just a day after his monumental victory in Paris.
After returning from the trip, he is back to his business of chasing new records – this time at Wimbledon, where he is looking to clinch a record-equaling 8th title. But he didn’t forget to spill the beans on his adventurous trip, right after his round 1 victory at SW19.

After his first-round victory at the ongoing Wimbledon, a relaxed Novak Djokovic addressed the media in his post-match press conference. During the media interaction, a reporter asked him about his vacation to the serene island of Sao Miguel, Azores, in Portugal, along with wife Jelena.
He revealed details of their adventurous experience, as he recalled why he and his wife needed to postpone their return flight. “I actually hiked a lot with my wife.. Spent some quality time with her, and.. What a wonderful island you have there, it’s fantastic.. It’s quite remote though, you know, when we were supposed to take off, we couldn’t.. We were stuck because of the fog and so we had to fly the next day..”, he reminisced.
The Serb also mentioned how this trip helped him regroup and refocus after the physical and emotional rollercoaster he went through in Paris.
“I needed to get away and get isolated a little bit so you know, had a pretty active recovery there, but still mentally felt refreshed when I came back..”, he said. With this trip, he also continued his trend of skipping all the grass-court tournaments in the lead-up to Wimbledon.

Djokovic opted out of Wimbledon warm-up tournaments yet again, chose to go on vacation instead?
Most top-ranked players usually allot at least 2 to 3 weeks prior to Wimbledon to participate in warm-up events in order to build momentum ahead of the big one at SW19. However, Djokovic has not taken part in any of the lead-up grass court tournaments before Wimbledon for the last few years, and incredibly, this has not affected his performances at the grand slam at all – he has won 4 consecutive Wimbledon titles in its last 4 editions! This year was no exception. He opted to take the Azores trip with his wife instead.
But as usual, he isn’t looking rusty one bit with the tennis racket in his hand. The world number 2 started his Wimbledon title defense with a convincing 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Argentine Pedro Cachin on Monday, as he aims to win his 5th Wimbledon crown on the trot.
