After the start of the US Open, many big names will be willing to lift the final grand slam title of the season. While big names like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will be expecting to make it far in the tournament, there are multiple other names to watch out for in the tournament. One among them is Daniil Medvedev, who welcomed his first child into the world in 2022. After successfully winning his first match at Flushing Meadows, the Russian player made a huge claim while indirectly showcasing how his priorities have changed.

Medvedev, in the post-match interview, talked about how he views his chances of lifting the title while talking about some of the biggest names in tennis at the moment.

Daniil Medvedev makes a surprising claim after winning his first match

In the bustling ambiance of the US Open, Daniil Medvedev remains resolute and unswayed by the spotlight cast on rivals Novak Djokovic and the emerging sensation, Carlos Alcaraz. When queried about the prospect of flying under the radar due to the prominence of his counterparts, Medvedev’s response was succinct. “I don’t care,” he declared, deflecting the notion that his lower profile was a concern.

With a pragmatism that underscores his approach to the game, Medvedev acknowledged the accomplishments of Djokovic and Alcaraz, recognizing their dominance in terms of ranking points and Grand Slam titles. However, he remained firmly committed to his own aspirations.

“I don’t care. It’s normal that Carlos & Novak are the biggest names. They’re farther in the points, more GS. This year they played some amazing finals.. My goal is to try to play well & get either to where they are, which means SF, or if they lose, to still get there & play somebody else. And to try to win. That’s the only thing I can do,” said Medvedev after his match, casting his candidacy for the title.

Medvedev’s singular focus on his performance and prospects underscores his competitive spirit and mental fortitude. As the tournament unfolds, the tennis world watches with keen interest to see if Medvedev’s determination will propel him to new heights and perhaps a coveted second US Open victory.

However, he would be eagerly waiting to increase his tally of grand slams after having 1 just one grand slam throughout his entire career.
