Due to his knee injury, Roger Federer had to withdraw from the Laver Cup 2021. Naturally, the whole experience of the tournament felt incomplete without his presence. Not just for fans but also for his Team Europe. And so, Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his feelings on text. In response, Federer paid him and the Boston crowd a surprise visit.

Moreover, as the Swiss maestro entered, he received a standing ovation from the entire stadium. Considering that he started his tournament, Federer would be happy to see the turnout without him playing.

“I got a text from Stefanos saying where I am, he’s missing me, and he needs me on the team. I didn’t tell him I am coming so that it’ll be a surprise,” Federer explained.

Throughout Day 1, the 20-time Grand Slam champion enjoyed the matches from the stands. He even went to the Team Europe locker room to congratulate Andrey Rublev on his close win against Diego Schwartzman.
