In a recent interview with Alize Lim and Mats Wilander, John McEnroe was all praises for the Italian star Jannik Sinner. The Italian had expressed his desire to add another member to his coaching team to help regular coach Riccardo Piatti.

In response, McEnroe offered his services and said that he would definitely be interested in an advisory role in the 20-year-old’s team.

“I am definitely available,” McEnroe said for Jannik Sinner

While 7-time Grand Slam winner McEnroe has many media commitments, he offered a part-time and advisory role to Sinner.

McEnroe said, “I am definitely available on a part-time basis, helping Jannik Sinner getting over the hump – which I’ll believe he’ll get over whether I coach him or not.” 

The 62-year-old got a glimpse of Sinner while he was at the US Open 2021. McEnroe said, “He came to my club when he was here for the US Open, he was practicing, and he’s like a sponge.

McEnroe even went further and told Italian coach Piatti his intentions. He offered the coach a helping hand in grooming the “young, beautiful” Italian player. Though McEnroe is not a full-time coach by profession, his experience and skill-sets will definitely help the 20-year-old Jannik Sinner to compete at a higher level.

Sinner at 2022 Australian Open

Jannik Sinner has bettered his previous Australian Open results this year by advancing to the 4th round of the Grand Slam. He defeated Taro Daniel 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the third round. With just 2 double faults and 10 Aces in the game, Sinner overcame the man who beat Andy Murray in the second round.

He has lost only 1 set till now and will face the 32nd seed, Alex De Minaur, on 24th January. Sinner has won against Minaur in previous 2 encounters and will be looking to add a third on the Aussie’s home turf.
