The Paris Masters witnessed a unique stance from Novak Djokovic. This triggered a fascinating reaction from Serena Williams’ former coach. Rather than retaliating to the crowd’s reaction, Djokovic took an unexpected route. He rather engaged with them. This strategy saw Djokovic’s remarkable shift in momentum.
Stubbs showed her astonishment as Djokovic, amidst the tension, took control of the situation. Instead of stumbling into the atmosphere, Djokovic took it to his advantage. The crowd’s energy fueled his own performance. It not only helped him to win the match but he went ahead to take the title home as well.
“Novak’s not flipping the crowd off. But he’s doing the opposite. He’s egging them on. Like he’s like, “bring it, bring it” and that match in particular in Paris, when he started egging the crowd on when he lost his serve. He didn’t lose a point after he did that,” said Stubbs in the podcast.
“He’s actually like, getting the crowd to get more angry. And he didn’t lose a point. And he won the match. And then he won the tournament,” she further continued.
This move by Novak Djokovic not only helped him win his match but also surprised the legends. Recently in the ATP Finals, a similar thing was witnessed when he engaged with the audience in a tense match against Jannik Sinner.
