The Australian Open has finally come to an end with Nadal beating Medvedev in the men’s finals. Seeing some great performances by the players, the tournament was a delightful treat for the entire tennis world. At the end of a Grand Slam, what the fans await are the fluctuations in the rankings. The new ATP points table after the Australian Open 2022
Novak Djokovic was forced to pull out from playing at the Australian Open 2022. However, in the new ATP ranking released today, 31st January, he retains the top spot with 11,015 points. Following Djokovic, is Daniil Medvedev. The Australian Open 2022 runner-up has added 1,200 points to his name, taking his point tally to 10,125.
Medvedev is followed by Alexander Zverev. Even though losing in the 4th round, the German retains the 3rd spot with 7,780 points. Next is the Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas. Even though losing in the semi-finals, Tsitsipas retains his 4th rank with 7,170 points.
Following Tsitsipas is the Australian Open 2022 winner, Rafael Nadal. Nadal, who was on 4,875 points, has added 2,000 points to his name, taking up his point tally to 6,875 points.
The 6th rank sees the only move in the top 10 rankings. Reaching the semi-finals, Matteo Berrettini has moved one stop up from 7th, having 5,278 points to his name. Losing in the 3rd round, Andrey Rublev has moved one place down. With 4,830 points, the Russian takes the 7th spot.

Withdrawing from the tournament, Norway’s Casper Ruud stands at the 8th spot with 4,065 points. On 9th rank is the Australian Open 2022 quarter-finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime with 3,923 points. The last in the top 10 rankings is the quarter-finalist Jannik Sinner with 3,705 points.
How are points distributed in a Grand Slam?
The point distribution in Grand Slams is the highest compared to other tour tournaments. The winner of a grand slam bags 2,000 points to his name. Followed by the winner, the runner-up bags 1,200 points. Coming out of the finals, the semi-finalists get 720 points to their name. Prior to the semi-finals, 8 players compete in the quarter-finals, all of which get 360 points.

Going in descending order, the next comes the 4th round. With 16 players on the draw, the 4th round players get 180 points each. The 3rd round players get 90 points. Next comes the second round players with an addition of 45 points, followed by the 1st round players, who get 10 points.
