Andrey Rublev has now established himself as one of the top 5 players on the men’s tour owing to his on-court prowess. However, apart from his brilliant achievements, the Russian tennis ace has also made headlines for his violent outbursts on the court, which have now lead him to make some serious revelations.

The current world No. 5 player previously caught public’s attention after repeatedly smashing his racket on his own knees. Shedding light on his violent outbursts on the court, Rublev recently opened up about how he often gets overcome with guilt after repeating the same mistakes.

During the Nitto ATP Finals, the Russian tennis player was up against Carlos Alcaraz, which he lost 7-5, 6-2. Earlier in the game, however,  he stunned the tennis realm in a moment of rage with his racket. Rublev was evidently furious after missing a shot that resulted in a service break against his Spanish rival.

In order to vent his frustrations, the ATP superstar repeatedly smashed his racket against his knees, which resulted in a bloodied knee. The game was further stopped for a brief period as Rublev had to receive medical attention on the sidelines. Emphasizing his violent act on the court, the 26-year-old player recently revealed that he feels guilty.

Rublev said, “Immediately afterwards, I feel guilty because I repeat the same mistakes. All this madness is not necessary, it does not help me, I know that. But right now, I just don’t know what else to do to motivate myself.”

 

Rublev’s outbursts have also caught the attention of the American tennis veteran Tracy Austin, who recently expressed her views on the same.

The American tennis veteran on how Rublev has a self-destructive side

In a previous conversation with Tennis.com, Tracy Austin opened up about how the ATP superstar’s intensity has been ‘sky-high’ on the court. While asserting that he has often been in title contention, the Hall of Famer said that Rublev’s sheer intensity has also helped him amass a number of accolades on the tour.

However, the American tennis veteran also talked about how Rublev sometimes gets overcome with emotions, as witnessed by his “self-destructive outbursts” on the court. She said, “But sometimes, Rublev’s emotions get the best of him, and he has self-destructive outbursts.”
