The journey of tennis players is closely linked with their fans. While on-court performances have always been a deciding factor, relations with the fans count as well. Alexander Zverev has been holding one of the top spots in the ranking charts for a while now. However, besides being a dominant force on the court, it seems like his personality still misses a trait.

Recently, a fan revealed an incident in which he mentioned Alexander Zverev’s rough attitude. As the tweet started to gain attention, another fan compared it to a contrary response from Lindsay Davenport, drawing a line of a huge difference between these tennis stars.

A recent tweet from a fan who praised Lindsay Davenport for signing a tennis ball of his son’s friend when he was six years old has gone viral. The fan expressed his emotions as he mentioned, “When my son’s friend was 6 (?) Lindsay Davenport signed his tennis ball. He is now 21. To this day, he would walk through fire for her….amazing what these 5-second encounters – good and bad – mean for fans….”

This reaction came up when another fan shared a contrasting experience that depicted the attitude of  Alexander Zverev. The fan mentioned that the tennis star refused to sign a ball for his kid when he was 18 or 19 at Indian Wells. He mentioned, “When Zverev was 18 or 19 at IW and nobody knew who he was, he refused to sign a ball for my kid. There was nobody watching him. Total db and cursed him since.”

The two opposite statements highlighted the influence that tennis players can have on their fans’ lives with just basic gestures. As the two stories fell in line, they clearly highlighted Zverev’s occasional rough nature towards the fans.

Zverev’s distance from German fans

The recent incident wasn’t the first time when Alexander Zverev was disliked by the fans for his attitude. Earlier, a journalist from Germany revealed how Zverev’s popularity has been reducing in his own nation’s audience.

“He can be very charming but especially in English. With his manager he focused on the international market, convinced that he would become a world star. He did not take seriously the media of his country where he is not particularly appreciated,” he mentioned.
