The 8-time Grand Slam champion’s mother Elizabeth Agassi supported him throughout his tennis journey. Elizabeth once revealed her reasons why she felt amused to see her son as a philanthropist.

The mother of Andre Agassi once talked about her tennis star son

The 8 Grand Slam title winner played the final tournament of his glorious tennis journey at the US Open in 2006. During that time, Agassi’s mother made a surprising revelation about her son. Apart from dominating the tennis court, Andre Agassi also likes to work for the welfare of society.

Elizabeth Agassi, stated in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, “When they get the opportunity, they are there, but Andre seems to have gotten a leap on it,”

She further added that her son is very kind as he always liked to do something for others. Agassi’s mother further added that she was pleasantly surprised as her tennis star son was very mischievous when was a child. She said, “But he was the kid stealing the cookies out of the cookie jar. But if you asked him for something, he was always there.”

The former world No. 1 played his farewell match at the US Open, where he was beaten by Benjamin Becker in New York. The two-time US Open champion received a standing ovation from the crowd after his farewell match.

Agassi’s family has faced several hardships over the years

The former American tennis player’s family faced many hardships and struggles in their journey. Agassi’s sister, Tami Agassi, and mother, Elizabeth Agassi, struggled with breast cancer. Additionally, Emmanuel Agassi, who was a former Iranian Olympic boxer, also faced many hardships during his journey.

Agassi’s father once revealed that a horrific incident made him an ‘illiterate’ when he was a student in Chicago. Agassi’s father further revealed that he once fell from a ladder and went into a coma. As a result, he got into in the category of “functional illiterates”.

However, despite his hardships, Emmanuel Agassi coached his son, who went on to become one of the best players in tennis, winning eight Grand Slam titles.
