The crowd’s reaction affected Novak Djokovic. Take it as a fact or an assumption but tennis enthusiasts have witnessed his game getting affected by it. A similar thing happened today when Djokovic went against American player Tommy Paul in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. And he knew he had to take advantage of the situation which he actually did. Even if the results did not end in his favor, Paul seemed to enjoy the thrilling face-off against the Serbian tennis legend.
Djokovic took down the last American hope from the Australian Open in straight sets. However, Paul gained some control even if it was for a few points, and here’s how the crowd helped him to do that.

What seemed like an easy victory for the Serbian tennis legend was not actually the same. The Serbian tennis legend definitely took the lead but his heart slipped for a moment when Paul caught up and this is where the American player tried to gain control.
During the post-match conference, he stated, “It was weird, like, when the match started, it felt like things were getting away from me really fast, felt like points were moving really fast, time in between point time was going really quick.”
However, something shifted and Paul picked up on that. He stated, “He gave me a couple looks. I extended a couple points. I feel like he got a little irritated with something. The crowd started getting a little rowdy. Started getting really fun.”
The American player thoroughly thrived on the overall energy of the audience and stepped up his game. He stated, “I got it to 5-All. I don’t really remember what happened there.”
However, it was the 21-time Grand Slam champion he was facing who has his own ways of controlling the game. He stated, “I just remember, like, after that I think I lost six games in a row or something, seven games in a row.”
Reflecting back upon a good match, he said, “Obviously should have done something different, or he stepped up and played great tennis.”
It is not the first time that someone has noticed his gameplay getting affected by the crowd. His former coach, Boris Becker also has similar views on the matter.
