Two weeks, ago, former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic had made some bold claims. The Australian player, when asked about Nick Kyrgios, had claimed to be better than him.

The two have only ever met at the Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament in 2019. Even though Tomic had defeated Kyrgios in the exhibition match, the latter maintained that he wasn’t even trying.

Tomic’s latest comments have baffled Nick Kyrgios

Earlier this month, Tomic had talked about Nick Kyrgios being easy to beat for him on Instagram. “I obviously beat him in Kooyong, a couple years back. (His) sort of style (of play) doesn’t really bother me,” Tomic had said.

Then, Kyrgios promptly fired back, saying that it was an exhibition match after all. “But to say that he’s better? I have more titles,” Kyrgios had claimed.

He also mentioned having defeated each of the Big Three at least once, which Bernard hasn’t done. Subsequently, he wished Tomic the best of luck for the upcoming season and expressed his desire to see his comeback be strong.

However, Tomic, speaking to News Corp, continued talking about beating him. “Whenever he wants I am happy to make it 2-0,” he said, mentioning their head-to-head record. “I’m more than happy to do a rematch at any time,” Tomic challenged Kyrgios.

These comments by Bernard Tomic left Nick Kyrgios baffled as to why Tomic continued his criticisms on his serve and game. Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Kyrgios said, “I’m probably one of the only people in tennis in Australia that’s stood up for him multiple times.”

Kyrgios subtly refers to being in the main draw over Tomic

Of course, Kyrgios is referring to the times that Tomic had almost the entire tennis community and fans against him. This was because of his comments about how disinterested he was in the sport, and how he was richer than the viewers who criticized his behavior.

“I’ve done things for him, my family, my brother’s done things for him,” Kyrgios continued. Their relationship in the past is one of the reasons he cannot wrap his head around the continuing call-outs from Bernard.

Talking about a rematch, where the two could meet again across the net, Nick continued. “I’m not sure,” he said, “but as far as I’m aware, I don’t think he is even in the Australian summer. I haven’t seen his name anywhere.” Kyrgios was probably cheekily and subtly pointing out how Tomic is not even in the main draw yet and will have to climb up the ranks through qualifying.
