Jannik Sinner’s name rules the headlines around the globe. As the Italian rising star made history by earning a ticket to the first grand slam event of his career, his performance against Novak Djokovic made him a force to be reckoned with. While the celebrations lie on the Italian’s side, it is the Serb who stands in a situation of remorse.

In a post-match interview, Djokovic shared his thoughts on his unexpected exit from the Australian Open 2024, connecting the dots with a diminished performance throughout the tour. “To be honest, the whole tournament I haven’t really played close to my best…I didn’t feel really myself on the court during this tournament,” he admitted.

While acknowledging a standout performance against Adrian Mannarino as an exclusion, Djokovic highlighted that most of his performances were nothing compared to his usual standards in Australia.

Despite reaching the semifinals, he carried a sense of disappointment, saying, “One can say semifinals is a great result, of course, but I always expect the highest of myself, and it wasn’t meant to be today.” This revelation explained that the defeat not only sent Djokovic off from the tournament but his enthusiasm also took a hit.
