Monaco recently took part in an exclusive interview with CLAY Tennis. During a candid conversation, Monaco revealed, that if Nadal hit the spotlight again, it will solely be to win, and if he does win, he won’t be retiring in 2024. This insight sheds light on the indomitable spirit that defines Nadal’s career.
Monaco further elaborated on Nadal’s perspective regarding Djokovic’s record-breaking Grand Slam win, stating, “I don’t think so, no. I think he stopped fighting for that a while ago.” Monaco further revealed that Nadal is satisfied with what he has on his plate. He further stated that if Novak Djokovic goes on to win more Grand Slams he might become the greatest player to ever play the sport but only if stats and numbers are discussed.
Monaco also revealed his perspective on the impact Roger Federer and Nadal have on the sport.

Monaco stated, “There is something undeniable which is the way Rafa (Nadal) and Roger (Federer) changed tennis. They will always have a much bigger place reserved in the heart of the tennis fan than Djokovic. No disrespect to Djokovic, who may be the greatest in titles, but the love for Rafa and Roger is much stronger than the love that Djokovic generated.”
The friendship amongst the big three
In the same interview, after talking about Nadal’s return to the main stage, Monaco also talked about another recent headline regarding friendship between the Big Three. Monaco shared his thoughts, saying, “It has no – undoubtedly – a tennis explanation, because Djokovic is going to win more than them. But there is a distance in what Rafa and Roger generate, in the love of the fan.”
