Novak Djokovic‘s unprecedented 23rd grand slam title received a mixed bag of responses from fans on social media. Ecstasy for Djokovic fans, agony for the naysayers as the Serb won his third Roland Garros title. The history books will read Novak Djokovic’s name before anyone else’s. He was the talk of the town as every other slam winner has been after creating history.
Among all the fan opinions, a particularly controversial take caught everyone’s eye. It was not from an average Twitter fan account. In fact, The Guardian published an article leading to Djokovic fans’ meltdown.

The author of the controversial article was none other than Ben Bramble, a former nationally ranked junior tennis player. He claimed that Djokovic cannot be the greatest player of all time despite leading every major statistic. The 42-year-old author further added that numbers can be deceptive and strongly wrote Djokovic off.
This is the most desperate feature I have ever read in my life…
PLEASE READ and RIDICULE Ben Bramble

The outrage began when a big Novak Djokovic questioned the author’s opinion. The post became visible to more and more fans before the tweet blew up. A fan pointed out the most absurd part of the article where the author countered slam race points with ridiculous examples.
This part in particular is genuinely hilarious and had me wondering if it was supposed to be serious. 😂 https://t.co/a9vQ0JYjAd pic.twitter.com/ld7CBYuXfr

One of the users said that he gave up on the piece after three paragraphs.
Omg, couldn't go through more than 3 paragraphs. Second hand embarrassment 🤮🤮 how come they still don't realise that this doesn't favor their poor ol Fed, or injured Nadal? And doesn't hurt Novak in the slightest

One user went in on The Guardian for ruining her mood.
Throwing mud on all joyous things in the world, @guardian style. As usual. By a philosophy lecturer. 👇😡https://t.co/ImNRV4bBCs

Another user came up with a really brutal and sarcastic remark.
My granddad used to save money by using newspapers instead of toilet paper. If I ever decide to follow his steps, @guardian will be my exclusive choice 👇🏻

Even the renowned Serbian journalist, Sasa Ozmo could not resist calling out the author of the article.
Laughing so hard at this 😂

The fans’ outrage continued as one user went on to call the article rubbish.
The worst article ever written out of desperation and stupidity! Ben and @guardian cemented their status as rubbish 💩

One fan believed it was the Roger Federer bias that made the author come up with this take.
Pathetic. Guys stinks of being a Federer fan.
— DE (@Plasticman2009) June 12, 2023
Ben Bramble was also called out for his saltiness.
Peak saltiness. Can’t believe they even published it!

Fans were indeed not happy with this take.
How pathetic, they keep reaching new lows. I feel for them. Novak has left them without dignity
— Lucas Benítez (@Lucas51192) June 12, 2023
Guardian’s credibility was also questioned.
Ignore it. The Guardian is a rag with zero credibility.

What is next for Novak Djokovic?
After taking the lead in the slam race, one might wonder what is there left for Djokovic to do. However, the Serb will have his eyes on the calendar year grand slam. He starts off as a heavy favorite for Wimbledon next month as he has been the reigning champion at the Centre Court since 2018.

If Djokovic can get his hands on the Wimbledon trophy, he will have another chance to complete the calendar slam. He fell short by one match in 2021 but this time Djokovic will give his all in New York should history be on the line.
