Novak Djokovic‘s unprecedented 23rd grand slam title received a mixed bag of responses from fans on social media. Ecstasy for Djokovic fans, agony for the naysayers as the Serb won his third Roland Garros title. The history books will read Novak Djokovic’s name before anyone else’s. He was the talk of the town as every other slam winner has been after creating history.

Among all the fan opinions, a particularly controversial take caught everyone’s eye. It was not from an average Twitter fan account. In fact, The Guardian published an article leading to Djokovic fans’ meltdown.

The author of the controversial article was none other than Ben Bramble, a former nationally ranked junior tennis player. He claimed that Djokovic cannot be the greatest player of all time despite leading every major statistic. The 42-year-old author further added that numbers can be deceptive and strongly wrote Djokovic off.

The outrage began when a big Novak Djokovic questioned the author’s opinion. The post became visible to more and more fans before the tweet blew up. A fan pointed out the most absurd part of the article where the author countered slam race points with ridiculous examples.

Another fan lashed out at the author while showing no mercy.

One of the users said that he gave up on the piece after three paragraphs.

One user went in on The Guardian for ruining her mood.

Another user came up with a really brutal and sarcastic remark.

Even the renowned Serbian journalist, Sasa Ozmo could not resist calling out the author of the article.

The fans’ outrage continued as one user went on to call the article rubbish.

One fan believed it was the Roger Federer bias that made the author come up with this take.

Ben Bramble was also called out for his saltiness.

Fans were indeed not happy with this take.

Guardian’s credibility was also questioned.

What is next for Novak Djokovic?

After taking the lead in the slam race, one might wonder what is there left for Djokovic to do. However, the Serb will have his eyes on the calendar year grand slam. He starts off as a heavy favorite for Wimbledon next month as he has been the reigning champion at the Centre Court since 2018.
