On February 7, 2020, fans witnessed something historic on the tennis court. It was the day when the sixth edition of the ‘Match for Africa’ took place at the Cape Town Stadium in South Africa. Roger Federer teamed up with billionaire Bill Gates and faced the pair of Rafael Nadal and Trevor Noah, a comedian and the host of ‘The Daily Show’.

It was a special match for Roger Federer since he always dreamt of playing in South Africa. It is the birth country of Federer’s mother and thus, holds a special place in his heart. The match was a charity match and all the money went to the Roger Federer Foundation to support the education of children in Africa.

Federer recalled the moment recently and shared a special message on Twitter. He went on and called the match the greatest highlight of his tennis career. There is even a documentary that is coming up on the same and Federer shared its teaser.

“One year ago, I had one of the greatest highlights of my career by playing the Match in Africa 6 in Cape Town. With the help of some special friends, we broke a world record! Stay tuned for the full length doc,” tweeted Federer.

Rafael Nadal also supported Federer in this noble cause and decided to play two matches against him. Interestingly, the match also recorded the highest ever attendance in a tennis match as more than 50,000 spectators showed up for it.

In the teaser, fans got to know some really intriguing facts about Federer. One could see her mother saying that the entire family spent around three months in South Africa when Federer was four months old. Federer also revealed an interesting thing in the video.

“If my career comes to an end and I have not played in South Africa, I’ll be sad, will be disappointed in myself,” said Federer in the documentary’s trailer.

The Swiss Maestro surely has a special connection with South Africa. In the doubles match, he and Bill Gates defeated Nadal and Noah 6-4 to make the moment even more memorable.

It was quite a heartbreaking moment for fans when Federer withdrew from the Australian Open 2021. Although he is not playing at the Grand Slam, fans expect him to make an incredible comeback super soon. Will Federer be able to win his 21st Grand Slam title in 2021?
