Every eye in the tennis world is looking at Doha, where the Qatar Open 2021 will take place. Moreover, it is the tournament where Roger Federer will mark his comeback in a few days.

Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev, Gael Monfils, Denis Shapovalov, and many other notable players will join the Swiss maestro in Doha. Indeed, it is the moment that every tennis fan dearly awaited.

The three-time Grand Slam champion from Switzerland, Stan Wawrinka, will also compete for the title. But before he starts his campaign, the 35-year-old revealed who he is excited to play.

Great to see Roger Federer play again, says Stan Wawrinka

Until now, Stan has had dissatisfactory performances in 2021. Recently, he lost in the opening match at the Rotterdam Open 2021 against Russian Karen Khachanov in straight sets.

That is why the desert tour plays a vital role in his tennis calendar. In Doha, he will have the opportunity to find his confidence and to take on the entire season after that.

However, he agreed that all attention deservedly would go to the 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. But, he is happy to see his friend, compatriot, and fellow competitor back on the courts again.

“I think everybody is looking forward to Roger playing. I mean, back after a year, it’s gonna be great to see him play again on Tour,” Wawrinka said.

Other than that, the former World No. 3 humbly responded to his desirable opponent. “I am playing the qualifier,” he smiled, “So I don’t even know who I am playing first, and the draw is already out.” Watch the entire live stream below.

Moving forward, Stan will play his opening match against South African Llyod Harris on 9th March 2021. On paper, the current World No. 20 will proceed to the next round without any argument.

Roger Federer is already through to the second round, receiving a bye in the first. In case everything falls right on the plan, Wawrinka will meet his countryman in the Qatar Open 2021 final.

However, the primary goal for Stan will be to gain his confidence and prepare for bigger tournaments ahead. The tennis warhorse desires to give out his best before he hangs his tennis racket.
