Zverev defeated Holger Rune in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters, propelling him to the finals where he triumphed over Ugo Humbert. This win allowed him to leapfrog Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings, securing the second position. While this achievement would be a highlight for many, he remains humble. He acknowledges that both Sinner and Alcaraz are currently performing at a higher level, “I feel like you know, Carlos and Jannik are doing better than me.”

Sinner, holding the No. 1 spot, has been on a roll this season with seven titles, including a record prize of $6 million at the exhibition event, Six Kings Slam in Riyadh. Meanwhile, Alcaraz has won four titles this year, two of which were Grand Slams!

Although Zverev leads with wins against Sinner overall, he’s yet to claim a Grand Slam title himself, unlike his younger rivals. Despite claiming he’s “happy to be in the finals,” However, Sascha has other goals. In a post-match interview at the Paris Masters, he expressed his determination, “I’m happy to be playing the way I’m playing for sure, but again the main objective and the main goal right now is to give those two guys a harder time next year.”

Feeling the heat, Alexander is just getting back on his feet after a challenging two years following an ankle injury at Roland Garros in 2022. He suffered a severe injury that required extensive rehabilitation and kept him off the court for months. Now, he is grateful to be back among the elite. Although Alexander Zverev has opted out of the Davis Cup this year, he remains focused on his goals. On October 28, he expressed his disappointment in a DTB statement, “Unfortunately, I will not be able to represent Germany at the Davis Cup finals in Malaga.” Earlier this season, Zverev battled pneumonia, which affected his performance. After a tough quarterfinal exit against Lorenzo Musetti at the Vienna Open, he bounced back to win the 2024 Paris Masters, defeating Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-2. This victory marked his second ATP Tour title of the year and his seventh overall at the Masters 1000 level.

In the final against Humbert, Zverev displayed dominance, losing just one point on his serve in the first set and capitalizing on Humbert’s errors. Holding that trophy was emotional for him. “I want to thank my team,” he said, acknowledging their sacrifices over the past two and a half years. “The work we’ve done over the past two and a half years to be back in this position. Everyone had to sacrifice so much,” he added.

Zverev’s comeback has been remarkable, especially after a severe ankle injury at Roland Garros in 2022 that required surgery. Reflecting on those challenges, he said, “To be able to play on these beautiful courts again…there was never a hundred percent guarantee.” Now heading to the ATP Finals for the seventh time, he remains grounded and ready to face the best in tennis. Will he rise to the occasion? Only time will tell!
