The 25-year-old won his fourth-round match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain, to secure his quarterfinal berth. The world number 3 is all set to face the young Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. However, the German has expressed his displeasure regarding court scheduling before the match.
Alexander Zverev is unhappy with his court scheduling
Alexander Zverev criticized the organizers of Roland Garros for giving him just a solitary match at Philippe-Chatrier, the main court at Roland Garros. In stark contrast, Alcaraz has played three out of his four matches there. Notably, the world number 1 Novak Djokovic and Spanish legend Rafael Nadal have got two and three games each on the main court.
Zverev made it clear that he understands that Djokovic and Nadal have won 20 and 21 Grand Slam each, and hence deserve their chance to play at the main court. But favoring Alcaraz over him has disappointed the German.
“We [Carlos Alcaraz and myself] have Novak and Rafael on our side of the tournament. And it is normal, if they are on your side of the tournament they get what they want, and that’s okay. One of them won 20 Grand Slam, the other 21. And that is proper. That is totally fine for me. But it is very interesting to see that Alcaraz gets what he wants. We all have played a couple of times on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Myself three times, Novak twice, even Rafa. But Alcaraz plays every match on Philippe Chatrier,” he said. Also, the 24-year-old emphasized the difference between playing in Phillipe-Chatrier and other courts at the French Open. He said that playing on a different court is like
“playing on another continent”.Read more:
