The pre-match warmup has always been a customary routine and tradition for every player, both on the ATP and WTA Tour. Most of the players usually take up to 20 minutes before the matches, to stretch out their muscles. However, there are some names in the tennis community who haven’t been impressed by the warmup tradition. Andy Murray, the British tennis star, has recently made a surprising revelation about his opinion on the customary pre-match routine.

The 35-year-old ATP player is apparently frustrated with the idea of the four-minute warmup. Speaking of it, the former world no.1 recently revealed how he wants to get rid of the pre-match tradition.

Speaking about it, Murray expressed his frustration with the four-minute warm-up before the matches. Even though it’s a part of his own routine, the former world no. 1 said that it makes things a little trickier in terms of the schedule.

The ATP star also said a 20 minutes warmup would be his own preference considering the match schedules. However, Murray still wants to see a change in the customary pre-match routine. He said, “I’d probably get rid of the 4-minute warmup.”

Murray’s frustrations about match scheduling are justified

The British tennis legend has always been blunt when it comes to expressing his opinions about various matters in the tennis community. Back in January, it was 4 AM when Murray finally packed his bags on the sidelines, after his late-night thriller against Thanasi Kokkinakis in Melbourne Park.

The audience might have seen that match as a great entertainer, but it was a major concern for the 35-year-old ATP player. Speaking about it during the post-match press conference, Murray expressed his worries regarding the scheduling of the tournament. It was almost 5 AM in Sydney and the former Wimbledon champion was quite concerned about the fans and the staff who were there at the stadium.
