The German tennis star, Alexander Zverev fell short of the lofty expectations the tennis community had for him at the recently concluded British Slam. After some decent initial round performances, he was stunned by the Italian tennis player, Matteo Berrettini who just made a comeback following his injury woes. Emphasizing his disappointing defeat, the former world No. 2 player said that he can’t blame himself too much while he had no issue being outshined by an out-of-form opponent.
Zverev’s justification for his poor campaign, however, came under intense scrutiny from the tennis realm including his compatriot and the tennis legend, Boris Becker. While lashing out at the young tennis star, the Hall of Famer compared him to his peers, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

Boris Becker was recently featured in the Eurosport podcast, in which he gave his assessment of the former world No. 2 player’s campaign at the Wimbledon Championships. The German tennis legend made it clear that he was quite frustrated with Alexander Zverev for being satisfied with his “way too little” campaign at the prestigious tournament.
He said, “Normally, Sascha is hard on himself, including in public. That’s why I didn’t like him now, there was too little self-analysis.”
In the process, the former tennis ace also compared Zverev to his peers, Djokovic and Alcaraz, who had a dominating run at the British Slam. Becker said, “You won’t hear anything like that from Djokovic or Alcaraz if they lose to a long-injured Berrettini in the third round at Wimbledon.”
The 6 singles Grand Slam champion asserted that his young countryman should be concerned about his own performance levels rather than attribute setbacks solely to the opponent’s class. This is not the first time that the former Wimbledon champion is criticizing the young tennis star.

Becker previously brought to light some “mistakes” being made by Zverev
In an old interview, the 55-year-old tennis legend said that his young compatriot is repeating the “same mistakes” that are keeping him from achieving a major triumph in the men’s circuit. Becker said, “He still makes the same mistakes, that’s the annoying thing”.
In order to win a Grand Slam title, the German tennis legend urged Zverev to stop being too passive as stands behind the baseline in crucial moments. Meanwhile, Becker also had some praise for the ATP player as he called him a leader among the younger generation in the tennis circuit.
