Holger Rune has had a dream run at the French Open 2022. However, his journey in the tournament was cut short by Casper Ruud of Norway. The latter prevailed in the quarterfinal battle in a hard-fought, four-set match. In the process, Ruud entered his maiden Grand Slam semifinal.

Earlier, Rune had become the first player from Denmark to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open in men’s singles. He had a giant-killing run at the tournament. Earlier, he had defeated the likes of Denis Shapovalov and Stefanos Tsitsipas en route to the quarterfinals.

However, he had a heart-breaking last-eight loss against Ruud. Subsequently, he wore a dejected look during the handshake and failed to congratulate his opponent. This incident led to a strong reaction from tennis fans.

The Danish teenager didn’t acknowledge Ruud’s performance during their handshake. As a result, it led to a series of reactions from tennis fans. One fan wrote, “Rune is a whirlwind of talent but he needs to grow up, shut up and be more gracious. Tennis doesn’t need another kyrgios. Well done Casper!”

Talking about Rune’s maturity, a fan said, “And the little Casper shake of the head. Rune is maturing compared to a year ago but he’ll look back and regret the Petulant behaviour in the future.”

Further, another fan said, “Tennis is a sport. One person has to lose but if you lose at least buck up and be dignified and gracious. Doesn’t matter what age whether 10 to 100. Rune is just bad manners period.”

Ruud’s journey ahead at the French Open 2022

After his quarterfinal victory over Holger Rune, Ruud will face Marin Cilic in the semifinals. The latter had defeated Andrey Rublev in the other quarterfinal earlier yesterday.
