It was a heart-breaking end on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Alexander Zverev gave his all against Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the French Open 2022. However, towards the end of the second set, the German tennis star slipped while trying to make a return and injured his ankle in the process. The 25-year-old was in tears and cried in extreme pain after suffering an untimely injury.

Subsequently, he moved out of the court in a wheelchair. Sometime later, he entered the court on crutches to shake hands with Nadal and acknowledge the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation. Additionally, the entire tennis fraternity wished Zverev a speedy recovery. Amongst them was World Number 1 Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic has a kind message for Alexander Zverev

The 20-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram to wish Zverev a speedy recovery. Posting a story on his official Instagram handle, he said, “Get well soon Sasha.”

Further, talking about his injury, Zverev said, “A very difficult moment for me today on the court. Obviously, a fantastic match until what happened, happened. It looks like I have a very serious injury. But the medical team and the doctors are still checking on it.”

Nadal was leading 7-6 (8), 6-6 when the unfortunate incident took place. It was an intriguing match with both players producing some eye-catching tennis shots. However, Zverev’s injury forced him to retire midway through the second set.

Nadal to face Casper Ruud in the French Open 2022 finals

In the other semifinal match later yesterday, Casper Ruud of Norway got the better of Marin Cilic in four sets. Ruud is in great form this season, having already won two titles this season. On the other hand, Nadal is looking to capture his 14th French Open title.
