Over the years, Marin Cilic has enthralled tennis fans across the globe with his audacious displays on the tennis court. Further, he had a memorable 2014 season, notching up his maiden Grand Slam title.

The Croatian tennis star won the US Open title, defeating Kei Nishikori in the summit clash. Additionally, en route to the title, he defeated the likes of Roger Federer and Gael Monfils to win the biggest trophy of his career.

Cilic is in Paris to participate in the French Open 2022. The 33-year-old is having a dream run in the tournament, reaching the last-four stage. He overcame Andrey Rublev in a hard-fought, five-set thriller in the quarterfinals. After winning his match against the seventh seed, Cilic achieved an illustrious feat.

The Croatian tennis star joined the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray to become the fifth active player to reach the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments in men’s singles. While the other four stalwarts had achieved this feat quite early in their careers, Cilic achieved this illustrious feat after being on the tour for over 15 years.

Moreover, his best results at the other three Grand Slam tournaments barring the French Open have been at least a final appearance. While he lost the summit clashes at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2018 and 2017, respectively, he went on to win the US Open title in 2014.

Cilic’s journey ahead at the French Open 2022

In a topsy-turvy four hours and 10 minute battle, Cilic edged Rublev 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-2). In the semifinals, the 33-year-old will take on Casper Ruud of Norway. The latter had defeated Holger Rune in the other quarterfinal yesterday.

Further, it will be a maiden French Open semi-final appearance for both Cilic and Ruud. While Ruud is in good form this season, Cilic caused the upset of the tournament by knocking out Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this contest.
