The year 2022 has seen many young tennis stars rise up the ranks. From Carlos Alcaraz to Iga Swiatek, these players have caught everyone’s eyes with their impressive displays. Further, among them has been the American tennis star, Sebastian Korda. The 21-year-old is notching up consistent performances in the tournaments this season. Moreover, beginning the year in the 43rd place, Korda has risen to the 30th spot on the ATP rankings chart.

Korda is currently in Paris to participate in the French Open 2022. Yesterday, he had a comfortable second-round victory over the local hero, Richard Gasquet. During the post-match interview, he had a cheeky reply to one of the interviewer’s questions.

Sebastian Korda on Radek Stepanek’s presence

After the match, Mats Wilander asked Korda about the presence of Radek Stepanek in his box. Replying cheekily to his question, Korda said, “Coach Radek over here! We’re 2 and 0, baby, let’s keep it going!”

After his second-round victory, Korda is set to face in-form Carlos Alcaraz in the next round. Further, talking about the Spaniard, Korda said, “He deserves all the attention he is getting. Is doing things that nobody had been done in the last 20 years or so.”

Earlier this year, the American had defeated Alcaraz in a hard-fought, three-setter thriller in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters. Additionally, Korda is the only player to defeat Alcaraz on clay-court, this season.

Korda knocks out Gasquet at the French Open 2022

The 21-year-old American brought his A-game to the court, prevailing over Gasquet in straight sets. In a closely-fought first set, Korda won crucial points in the tiebreaker to take the first set 7-6 (5). Further, he carried the momentum into the second set, winning it 6-3.

Subsequently, the third set was a one-sided affair. Korda broke Gasquet’s serve twice in the third set to win 6-3. It will be an interesting matchup between Alcaraz and Korda, as both the players look to dig deep in the tournament.
