It is difficult to imagine that Carlos Alcaraz is only 19-years-old. Such has been the Spaniard’s season to date, that he has impressed everyone with his outstanding displays on the court. Earlier this year, he won his maiden ATP 500 title in Brazil. Further, he maintained his impressive form and captured his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami.

Alcaraz has entered the French Open 2022 high on confidence after winning back-to-back titles in his home country. On the opening day of the clay-court Grand Slam tournament, Alcaraz defeated Juan Ignacio Londero of Argentina in straight sets. Owing to his stupendous form, Alcaraz has reoriented and set higher goals for this year.

Talking about his chances at Roland Garros, Alcaraz said, “I would say that I am one of the favorite players to win Roland Garros. There are a lot of great players — Rafa, Djokovic, the best players in the world are going to play there, but I think I’m ready to do a good result in Roland Garros.”

Further, talking about his playing style, Alcaraz said, “It was difficult at the beginning, but it’s always special to play in such a good stadium, a great court… I’m really happy with the performance in my first match in the Philippe Chatrier and I hope to play more matches in this court.”

Alcaraz dominates Juan Ignacio Londero

The Spaniard showed no signs of rustiness as he took less than two hours to move into the second round of the French Open. He was strong in his service games and didn’t face any breakpoints throuhgout the match. Meanwhile, he broke the Argentine’s serve on six occasions.

In the second round, Alcaraz will take on Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The 19-year-old was handed a tough draw and might face Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. Also, both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are in the first half of his draw.
