Last year, Rafael Nadal’s uncle, Toni Nadal, joined Felix Auger-Aliassime and his coaching staff. Having achieved many special feats with his nephew, Toni returned to the ATP Tour with the rising Canadian star. Felix was on the 22nd spot when he began working with Toni.

The Spanish coach has had a great impact on Felix’s career, thus far. Earlier this year, he helped him win his first ATP title. Felix defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the summit clash to win the Rotterdam title. Further, putting in consistent performances across tournaments, Felix has entered the top-10 of the ATP rankings.

During the post-match press conference after his third-round victory, Felix talked about his coach, Toni Nadal’s role in his preparations for the match against Rafa. He said, “I don’t know if I need insight on how Rafa plays, to be honest. I think we all know what he does well! I don’t think Toni will tell me anything new about how Rafa plays.”

Further, he added, “We had the discussion. It was black and white from the first time we started working together; we knew it was a possibility that eventually I would play Rafa when I’m working with Toni. Actually now he’s present here in this Grand Slam. But I think Toni will watch from a neutral place and enjoy the match. From my part it’s another match, another opportunity to try to play a good match and win, but of course it’s very difficult.”
